“Vineyard I” is a historic vineyard in the heart of Rutherford planted to Clone 6 and Clone 4 under thin, gravelly soils.
The wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from four different blocks with distinct characteristics, fermented together by native yeasts. The resulting wine has quiet power, poise and impressive length that comes in waves.
Soils with naturally low fertility and no irrigation make for naturally balanced grapevines with low yields and small berries.
The wine from Bates Ranch is plush yet primal, with enveloping tannins and relentless length, dark fruit and the vibrancy of dry-farmed old vines.
The 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wine produced from this vineyard is rich and densely-packed, savory with dried sage and a signature cocoa aroma.
