Influential architecture and interiors magazine Dezeen recently caught up with Los Angeles firm Bestor Architecture to explore the design thinking behind Ashes & Diamonds’ new winery complex in Napa Valley.

Tasked with implementing owner Kashy Khaledi's vision of pairing a more relaxed and welcoming vibe with mid-century modernist sophistication, Bestor aimed for a "lighter and more current take, fitting to the industrial nature of wine production and more residential scale of the hospitality,” said Bestor.

Highlights include everything from the winery's distinctive zig-zag canopy that echos "Donald Wexler's folded plate roofs of the mid-century Palm Springs postcard fantasy", to the signature bright yellow pivot door that welcomes visitors to the indoor tasting room, to interior wall and ceiling finishes that "provide texture, warmth, and acoustics in the mostly-glass box with terrazzo floors."
