Cabernet Sauvignon№1 — 2016

Mountain Peak Vineyard

Atlas Peak

NAPA VALLEY

ASHES & DIAMONDS’ Cabernet Sauvignon “Mountain Peak” comes from an organically farmed vineyard situated high atop the Atlas Peak AVA in the Vaca Mountains, at an altitude of 1,400 feet. Planted in 2000, the site’s thin, rugged soils are 60% rock content, resulting in low yields, tiny berries and loose clusters that maintain the conspicuous power of mountain fruit in the pour of a glass. Once in the winery, the grapes are cold-soaked until the start of native fermentation.

Upon release, the 2016 vintage of Mountain Peak Vineyard was demure and tightly-knit while alluding to a promising life ahead. Several years later, its tannins have softened, delivering layered flavors of cassis, graphite and sweet tobacco, with a lingering finish. Its evolution is revelatory, reaffirming its distinguished status among high-elevation Cabernet Sauvignons from the Atlas Peak appellation of Napa Valley. (Tasting Notes, 11/20/23)
